Woman Says Her Airbnb Host Let Himself In While She Was Sleeping — Then Tried To Act Like It Was “Normal”

A woman on Reddit said she booked an Airbnb for a short stay and expected a pretty standard experience. The listing looked normal, the reviews seemed fine, and nothing stood out as a red flag when she arrived. She said the host gave her basic instructions, showed her around briefly, and then left.

According to her post, everything felt fine the first night. She locked the door, went to bed, and didn’t think twice about it. But sometime during the night, she said she woke up to a noise that didn’t belong.

At first, she thought she was imagining it.

Then she heard movement.

She said she opened her eyes and realized someone was inside the room. The host had let himself in and was moving around quietly, like he didn’t expect her to wake up.

She said she immediately sat up and asked what he was doing.

According to her, he didn’t act startled or apologetic. Instead, he told her he needed to “check something” and acted like it was completely normal for him to be there. She said the explanation didn’t make sense, especially given the time and the fact that she had been asleep.

She told him to leave.

He did—but not before trying to downplay the situation. She said he acted like she was overreacting and insisted it was part of how he managed the property.

After he left, she said she locked the door again and stayed awake for the rest of the night.

The next morning, she contacted Airbnb support and explained what happened. She said they took it seriously and began looking into the situation. She also packed her things and left the property early because she didn’t feel safe staying there another night.

She later found out she wasn’t the only one.

According to her post, other guests had mentioned strange experiences in past reviews, but nothing as direct as someone entering the room while they were sleeping. She said looking back, some of the wording in those reviews felt different once she understood what might have been happening.

By the end of her post, she said the part that stayed with her wasn’t just the moment she woke up—it was how casually the host treated it. What should have been a locked, private space turned into something she said she couldn’t trust the second he walked in without permission.
