Man Says His Neighbor Installed a Hidden Gate to Use His Driveway — Then Acted Like It Had Always Been There

A man on Reddit said he started noticing tire tracks on his driveway that didn’t make sense. He lived on a property with a clear boundary line, and there wasn’t any reason for anyone else to be using his space. At first, he assumed it might be delivery drivers turning around or someone accidentally pulling in.

According to his post, the pattern didn’t stop. The tracks kept showing up, sometimes fresh, sometimes overlapping older ones. That’s when he decided to take a closer look along the edge of his property.

What he found didn’t sit right.

He said there was a section of fencing between his property and his neighbor’s that looked slightly different. The posts weren’t as old, and the alignment didn’t match the rest. When he checked it more closely, he realized part of the fence had been modified.

It wasn’t just a fence.

It was a gate.

He said the gate had been installed in a way that blended in with the rest of the fence line, making it easy to miss unless you were looking directly at it. From the neighbor’s side, it provided direct access to his driveway.

That explained the tire tracks.

He said he decided to watch more closely over the next few days. It didn’t take long before he saw it happen. The neighbor opened the hidden gate, drove through his property, used the driveway to turn around, and then left like it was completely normal.

That’s when he confronted them.

According to him, the neighbor didn’t act embarrassed or apologetic. Instead, they acted confused about why it was a problem. They said the gate had been there “for a while” and implied it wasn’t a big deal to use the space occasionally.

He said that wasn’t true.

The gate was new, and no one had asked for permission. When he pointed that out, the neighbor shifted their explanation and said they thought it wouldn’t matter since it was “just for turning around.”

The conversation didn’t resolve anything.

After that, he documented the gate and the usage. He took photos, noted times, and made sure he had a record of what was happening. He also started looking into property boundaries and what he could legally do to block access.

In the meantime, he made a simple change.

He parked his vehicle in a way that blocked the path from the gate to the driveway.

According to his post, it worked immediately. The neighbor couldn’t use the shortcut anymore. Within a day or two, they came back to complain, saying they needed access and asking him to move his car.

He refused.

The neighbor argued that it was inconvenient and that they had been using it regularly. That only confirmed what he already suspected—that it hadn’t been a one-time thing.

By the end of his post, the gate was still there, but access was blocked. He said the situation hadn’t fully resolved, but he had made it clear the space wasn’t shared. What started as a few tire tracks turned into discovering a hidden change to his property that someone else had been using without ever saying a word.
