Woman says her 18-year-old sister kept trying to seduce her boyfriend right in front of her — and the whole thing only ended after she finally threatened to throw her out

A woman on Reddit said she had reached the point where she was disgusted, furious, and completely out of patience with her younger sister.

She wrote that her 18-year-old sister, Hannah, had been living with her and her boyfriend, and over time Hannah started acting less like a guest and more like someone openly trying to get with her sister’s boyfriend. In the original post, she described it as constant and blatant: Hannah would lounge around in her underwear, act suggestive, and keep trying to engage with the boyfriend in sexual ways whether the woman was there or not. By the time she posted, she said she had “irrefutable proof” and was trying to figure out how to handle it without completely detonating what was left of her relationship with her family.

What made the whole thing worse was that she already knew how her parents tended to think. In a comment quoted in the BORU thread, she said they were very much the “family sticks together no matter what” type and would likely be angry that she was “choosing [her] boyfriend over [her] blood relative,” even though, as she put it, Hannah was not acting like much of a sister at all. She made it clear that she was not writing from a place of confusion about whether Hannah’s behavior was inappropriate. She knew it was. The question was whether there was any way to stop it without going all the way to kicking her out and possibly wrecking family ties in the process.

Three days later, she came back with her first update and said she had decided to act. After reading comments, she chose two of the main suggestions people had given her: tell her parents, and confront Hannah directly. She contacted her parents first and told them what had been going on. She also told them, in a “no arguments” way, that she was going to kick Hannah out. She explained that she was not asking for permission. She was warning them so it would not come out of nowhere and so they could help Hannah figure out somewhere else to go if they wanted to. She also said she did not bother sending screenshots of Hannah’s messages because she did not feel she owed anyone proof in order to make decisions about her own home.

Then she confronted Hannah. According to the update, she told her flat-out that she knew what had been going on and that it made her sick that Hannah would not only try to seduce her boyfriend, but also freely backstab her own sister just to get a guy. She warned her that if the behavior did not stop immediately, she was going to kick her out. The woman also later clarified that her boyfriend already knew everything that had been happening and that she had kept him informed on every development. What she had not wanted was to make him the one responsible for sitting Hannah down. She felt that needed to come from her. She also mentioned that she had a nanny cam in the apartment, because by then she clearly did not trust what Hannah might do next.

A few days after that came the final recovered update. By then, Hannah was out. The woman wrote that she had initially given Hannah 30 days to leave, but once she told her parents she had been avoiding her own apartment because she was so angry and uncomfortable, they stepped in much faster. They told Hannah to get her things and took her home within the week. The woman said that this improved her view of her parents a little because, once it was serious, they actually acted. They did not really blame her during the move-out and did not fight her on forcing Hannah out. She suspected they were ashamed, especially because this was not the first time Hannah had behaved horribly toward family. She said they were starting to realize just how bad Hannah’s behavior really was.

She also explained that she stayed at her boyfriend’s apartment for the whole week after the confrontation because she was too angry to be around Hannah and did not trust herself or her sister in close quarters. The nanny cam showed that Hannah did not destroy anything, but she did have what the woman described as three main reactions. The first was complaining nonstop on Facebook. She said Hannah trashed her online constantly and eventually posted a specific status saying, “My own sister is making me homeless because she’s crazy and insecure, if anyone can help me please text me :(.” The woman found it ridiculous enough that she just hid Hannah’s posts rather than keep reading them.

The update also showed that the woman was not under the illusion that kicking Hannah out solved the deeper problem. She planned to visit her parents in a few weeks and talk seriously about Hannah, because she believed this kind of behavior needed to be addressed before Hannah moved out on her own for good. In other words, to her this was not just some ugly family spat. It was a pattern of behavior that had finally crossed a line she could not live with anymore. By the end of the BORU thread, Hannah was gone from the apartment, the boyfriend was still in the loop and supportive, and the woman had at least gotten her home back, even if the family consequences were still unfolding.
