Woman says her coworker kept taking credit for her work — and her boss didn’t notice until something went wrong

In a Reddit post, one woman said the problem started in a way that almost felt too small to call out at first. She wrote that a coworker would occasionally jump in during meetings and summarize projects in a way that made it sound like they had been more involved than they actually were. According to the post, it was subtle enough in the beginning that she questioned whether she was overthinking it, especially since nothing was being taken from her outright—just slightly reshaped.

Over time, she said the pattern became harder to ignore. The coworker started presenting updates, speaking for shared work, and positioning themselves as the main contributor on projects she had largely handled. She wrote that it reached a point where her own role felt minimized in front of their boss, even though she was the one doing most of the work behind the scenes. Still, she hesitated to push back directly, partly because she did not want to come across as confrontational or difficult in a professional setting.

According to the post, the situation finally shifted when something went wrong on one of those projects. The coworker who had been presenting the work was suddenly the one being asked to explain details, and that is when things started to unravel. She wrote that the person struggled to answer basic questions about the project, which made it clear they were not as involved as they had been implying. In that moment, the gap between who had been doing the work and who had been talking about it became visible.

She said her boss eventually realized what had been happening, but not in a dramatic, confrontational way. Instead, it came out through those missed details and inconsistencies that were hard to ignore once they were on display. The woman wrote that while it did not undo everything that had already happened, it finally shifted how her contributions were seen. What started as something she second-guessed turned into something that had been happening all along—it just took the right moment for it to show itself.
