Man Says He Started Hearing Noises in His Attic — Then Found Out Someone Had Been Living There
A man on Reddit said the first thing he noticed was the sound. It was faint at first—light footsteps, something shifting overhead late at night. He lived alone, so there wasn’t anyone else who should’ve been up there. At first, he assumed it was an animal.
According to his post, the noises didn’t stop. If anything, they became more consistent. He said he would hear movement at odd hours—early in the morning, late at night—times that didn’t line up with normal house settling or small animals.
He checked the attic once.
He said he didn’t see anything obvious. No animals, no damage, nothing that explained the noise. So he brushed it off and went back downstairs.
But then other things started happening.
Food would go missing. Not a lot at once—just small amounts. A few snacks, part of a loaf of bread, things that could almost be explained away if he wasn’t paying attention. But he was.
Then one night, the noise was louder.
He said it sounded like something heavier shifting overhead, not just scratching or light movement. That’s when he decided to check again—but this time, he brought his phone with him.
He climbed into the attic slowly.
At first, everything looked the same. But then he noticed something toward the back—items that didn’t belong there. A blanket, a small pile of trash, and what looked like food wrappers.
That’s when it clicked.
Someone had been up there.
He said he froze for a second, trying to process it. Then he heard movement—closer than before. Not random. Not an animal.
A person.
He didn’t stay.
He climbed back down as quickly and quietly as he could and left the house. From outside, he called the police and explained what he had found.
According to him, officers came and checked the attic.
They found someone living there.
He said the person had been staying in the attic space, coming down when he wasn’t home, taking small amounts of food, and then going back up. The setup he saw—blanket, trash, wrappers—was exactly what they found.
He said the realization hit him hard.
For days or weeks, someone had been inside his house without him knowing. Moving around above him, coming down when he wasn’t there, living in the same space without being seen.
After that, he said he had the attic secured and checked the rest of the house carefully. He also changed locks and made sure there were no other access points.
By the end of his post, he said the part that stuck with him wasn’t just finding someone—it was how easy it had been to miss. What started as a small noise turned into discovering someone had been living just a few feet above him the entire time.
